It's a constant reminder of what I consider to be a ground truth. Too often in my life I've forgotten that and been hencewith humbled. So, I have a vague idea based on a concept I find rather neat: steelmanning. For those unfamiliar, you essentially try to argue with the best form of the argument you're actually arguing against. If you can beat the best form of their argument then certainly yours is superior. This is not necessarily a perfect tool, but I never claimed perfection.
